Chef/Owner Karen prides herself on her use of locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. She makes many of her ingredients in house daily, including the pasta, ricotta, sausage, and bread.
Karen grew up on the west side of Chicago. Raised by her Italian grandmother, Zita, her love for cooking and bold flavors began at a young age. She started her career in New York, but soon headed west, first with a foray at Spago, then landing in the Five Star, Five Diamond restaurant of the Four Seasons Hotel of Newport Beach. Karen’s gifts in the kitchen propelled her into the Four Seasons’ prestigious Sous-chef program, as one of very few female chefs chosen. After successfully working at five Four Seasons properties, Karen longed for something more personal, true to herself, and community-driven. At Hoffmann’s Grill, Karen, who makes her home just steps from the restaurant, seeks to merge the flavor profiles from her diverse cooking experiences to create a restaurant that will recapture the joys she first experienced as a child in her Italian grandmother’s kitchen.
